I can't write. I want to write. I sit down to write and no ideas come. This is very annoying to me. Someone fix it please and thanks.

Also, I watched the first episode of Smash this morning. It's got everything I like in it, singing, dancing, backstage theatre stuff, Jack Davenport. So I'm wondering why I didn't love it...

A world of sigh.

Oh, You guys.

So every once in a while I go through a phase where the only thing that really relaxes me or makes me feel safe is reading classics and watching costume dramas. Some weird mental tick leftover from childhood I guess (my sister does it too). I'm having a phase right now and generally I go back to the same productions but occasionally will seek out new ones, as I did this week, and golly was I glad when I came across North and South, an adaptation of Elizabeth Gaskell's novel.

It is beautiful.

North and South is about a family who move to a northern industrial town from the idyllic countryside of the south. I have never read the novel (yet), though I have read Elizabeth Gaskell before and really enjoyed her. I'm going to the library tomorrow to get the book.

But here are a few reasons you all should watch the adaptation...

And the next of love.Collapse )

*sigh*

So I'm in the mood for a meme. Here's how we do:

Ask me about my favourite something or other, books, movies, characters played by Timothy Busfield, flavours of jaffa cakes, anything you'd like. I'll ask you something in return. We'll chat.

OH! Also.Collapse )

Easy yo. A few days ago I asked for some *ahem* quickfire prompts to get my juices flowing. Turns out I'm rustier than I thought, but I have written things! The second one got too long for an LJ comment so am posting it properly, with like a title and everything.

Title: Underneath our feathered skin
Pairing: Kara/Lee
Rating PG - (sorry, I thought it might end up a little different but it just wasn't happening)
Author's notes: Written for scifishipper's prompt Kara/Lee, folding laundry. The title comes from a Slow Club song called Apples and Pears which I have been listening to a lot, and which kind of inspired this piece. I'm not the happiest with the ending, it just wouldn't go any further, and it needed to be away from me.

And so, please be gentleCollapse )

You guys, I want to write!

I had a temp job yesterday that basically involved sitting at a desk for 6 hours looking like I had a job to do, and I happened to have my notebook with me so I started working on my long-ignored crossovers that are WAY past due. But I'm having trouble finding my voice, even though I'm liking the plot and the structure loads more, I think I'm just a little rusty stylistically. And because I always write best when I'm trying to impress people, I was hoping you all would oblige me with some prompts for comment-fic.

It's not gonna be anything fancy, drabbles probably, I'll set myself a time limit for each one, just to get my juices flowing, but it can be anything you want, there are no rules.

How's about it?

Yesterday the phone company installed internet into my flat. After three months.

Three Months you guys! That is how long I've been away!

For several hundred reasons other than just the phone company people being idiots, the last three months have been what I've come to term "the time of shit". They sucked and that's all there is to say about that, but times are moving forwards. I have web access and therefore YOU access again which makes me so happy I could weep! Other good things are starting to happen too, so in general this has been a good day :)

A MOTHERLOAD of apologies to callmeonetrack for abandoning her to the organisation of reelpilots, I'm sorry! I would have been there if I could have :(

Other than that I hope you all had a fabulous holiday season and have been enjoying your year so far. Tell me what you've been up to if you so wish, talk to me people!

Soooo.....I'm gonna jump right back into the swing of things and start with a challenge. Each one of you should tell me ONE THING that you consider to be the MOST IMPORTANT thing I will have missed without access to fandom all this time. It could be a really awesome fic, or a picture of someone hot looking super duper hot, or an interesting article you read or a funny conversation that happened somewhere at some time. But only one each. Thems the rules.

GO!

Trying to jump-start my engines for reelpilots fic but am not actually ready to write things yet, quick drabble meme, anyone?

So, leave prompts if you feel like it, prompt options down below, and I will write something, and yeah, that's your lot.

THE OPTIONS:

1 - Pick a show that you know I write/have written/might like to write, and an event (e.g. first kiss)

2 - TROPE ME! - classic tropes that you'd like me to write - can specify a fandom/pairing if you like

3 - the five object game (yanked from kag523 - five objects in a box that I have to write about

4 - THE KAG OPTION - anything you want, because everyone likes to break the rules (just like I am doing by pre-empting Karin's invariable penchant for doing whatever the hell she wants - take THAT YOU CYLON FREAK!)

Go forth and PROMPTIFY! (It's like testify, only with prompts)

I saw Jane Eyre a few days ago! What a beautiful film! The colours and the score and the tone in general were just perfect. It was romantic without being sappy, compelling without being melodramatic, creepy without being too gothic which I never enjoy in Jane Eyre productions, it was just brilliantly pitched.

ThoughtsCollapse )

And, it's been a while since I've done this, and it seems like time for a new one, so, wishlist (and also maybe confessions?Collapse )
